My European Voluntary Service
My name is Hannah, I am 18 years old and I’m doing my EVS for one year in Anzola. I arrived at the end of September and so I already spend 4 months abroad. My home country is Germany and I live in a village close to Frankfurt. Before going to Italy I just finished high school. After this year in Italy I would like to go to university. This year helps me to get more independent, get to know a lot of new people (different nationalities and cultures), get an insight into the world of work, learning a new language and I hope it will also help me to find out what I want to do in my future.
I’m working in many different places here in Anzola. In the morning I mostly work in the kindergarten (scuola materna). There I’m in a group with about 20 children of three or four years. Afterwards I will help the children in the youth center with their homework. Then I will go the elementary school to accompany an autistic boy, while driving with the school bus. My working day mostly begins at 9 o’clock in the morning and ends around 6 p.m. Every Tuesday and Thursday I will also accompany a group of children to go to the school in the morning. This service is called “piedibus”. Instead of the kindergarten I’m working every Thursday in the library. All in all you can say that my working day is very rich in variety.
In my free time I really enjoy doing sports. That’s why I also join an athletics club in Anzola. I train twice a week with them and soon I will also take part at some competitions. On the other days I often go to the fitness center in our village and join some aerobic courses. Moreover I really like travelling. I already saw many places like Milano, Genova or Napoli, but I hope to see much more during the next few months. Owing to the On-Arrival-Training I had the chance to meet many awesome volunteers from all around Italy. Now you have the chance to travel a lot and meet many of these volunteers.
By now I feel quite well here. In Anzola Alejandro and I are the only volunteers. However, due to my sports club and the youth center I got to know many locals and I also became friends with many of them. Fortunately there are also the other volunteers from Bologna and Budrio.
